About Therapy

What is Therapy?

Therapy, also known as Psychotherapy or Counselling, is the process of meeting with a therapist/counsellor. Whereby, you can resolve problematic behaviours, beliefs, uncomfortable feelings and relationship issues. It’s not about giving advice or telling you what to do, it’s about helping you to find your own way forward.

Many people come to  therapy feeling ‘stuck’ in their lives, as if something is in the way of it’s progress. It may be that you just don’t know how to move past a difficult time in your life, or problematic issues in relationships. Whatever the situation, therapy can help you to explore this, make sense of it and make changes to your future.

My Approach to Therapy

My approach to life and therapy is Person-Centred. I believe that the client is the central part of the therapeutic relationship and your thoughts and feelings are the focus. The counselling relationship is integral to the healing process, providing emotional support where you can freely express those thoughts and feelings.

My approach is neither directive nor self-opinionated. I believe that everyone can be empowered to find their own answers, working together to facilitate insight and to discover a way forward.
Before sharing your thoughts and feelings, you will no doubt want to feel that you are in safe hands. Therefore, the first initial Free consultation, is where we can meet, share your expectations, hopes, fears, concerns and queries. It will allow you to make an informed decision about whether counselling is right for you at this time. It also allows me to ensure that I am well suited to support you and your needs.
Working collaboratively, meaning that we both bring our expertise to the process; mine being from theory and experience as a therapist, and yours from your knowledge of your self, your experiences, thoughts and feelings. Together, we can begin to explore the issues affecting you, with consideration for potential change.
I work with both individuals and couples on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period, working at a pace, that suits you and your needs. I understand how busy and complex our lives have become, therefore flexibility is key!
I have been a practising counsellor/psychotherapist in Addlestone for the past few years. I am committed to providing therapy in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental way.
